Knickernappies Stackable Mama Pads

Stackable Mama Pads are a unique 3-in-1 system that will allow you to adjust absorbancy throughout your menstrual cycle without having to buy several sizes of pads. One Stackable pad can be a pantiliner, regular pad, and heavy pad.

Each complete pad set includes an outer shell and two liners. One liner is small for light days, one is larger for regular days, and using both together is great for heavy days. Both pads snap securely onto the shell so you'll never need to buy a different size of shell...every Knickernappies Stackable pad fits onto every shell!

With the Stackable system, you will likely only need a few shells since the shell only needs to be changed if it gets soiled. Otherwise, just unsnap the soiled pad and snap on a fresh one!

The outer shell is very thin, but waterproof, fleece. It won't slide around the way PUL pads can! Large and small pads are made from microfiber. The velour against the skin is so soft and comfortable. Pads are very absorbant and comfortable to wear.

Washing instructions: rinse pads with cold water to prevent staining. Then place into diaper pail or into a separate pail or wetbag. Pads do not need soaking. 8) Moo Moo Kow One Size Diaper

Description : This is a first trial on my little one when i got recommended for this diaper by Bonnie. After tried out, pretty satisfied with the outcome. Didnt disappoint me.
Material : Inner is made of suede cloth..very soft and outer is of course 100% polyester.
Absorbency: This diaper comes with 2 inserts, one small and one large. For ur information, their inserts are quite large as compared to normal mircofiber, hence can absorb more. Since my gal no more night feeding, i wear on her from 9pm after her last feeding till the next morning 8am. Result no leak.
Drying time : Diaper itself very fast but of course the inserts may take a lil time unless it's under the hot sun,
Fit : It fits and snuggle very well. For what she is wearing is snap closure design. Didnt pick aplix cos she is very smart to detach nowadays. This diaper has four size adjustments from Short, Medium Short, Medium and Large

Wash & Care : As usual, no bleach, no softener. Wash it liked normal cloth diaper.
Prints : They come with aplix and snap designs. Colors wise has many to choose from. I m sure you can find a color of your favourite. Current i m using is Lavender Snap.

Ratings : 4.5/5
It's another good one size diaper to try out and the best is the price is quite affordable. In case you want to know the selling price, it is priced at RM73.00 per piece that comes with 2 inserts.

Information you might interested to know about reusable cloth pad

1. How to clean a cloth pad?
Washing a cloth pad is so easy as how you wash your worn undies.
1.First, rinse pad until water runs clear.
2.Fold, snap up and store in wetbag (if you are away from home)
3.Soak in a small pail and add a few drops of vinegar (as disinfectant) and baking soda (or even salt) if stain persist. Hand wash for longer lasting or toss into washing machine with your undies. Remember, DO NOT SCRUB your cloth pad.

2. How many hours can a cloth pad last?
One regular can last between 3-5 hours, on heavy days. However it depends on individual’s menses flow. Change them more frequent if you need to to prevent leakage.

3. Does it smells ?
Unlike disposable laden with harmful chemical and gel and release chemical fumes when wet, cloth pad is fully made of breathable cloth. You will be surprise to learn that your blood actually does not smell at all!

4. Do cloth pads leak?
Mama Patch cloth pad (Regular and Night) comes with a “breathable” water barrier layer at the bottom of the pad to prevent leakage. Although water resistant, this breathable water barrier will leak if you do not change for long hours especially during heavy days. Therefore it is advisable to change to fresh pad every 3~6 hours during your heaviest day, depending on individual’s flow.

5.Are cloth pads bulky?
On contrary, cloth pad is ultra slim as it only contains cloth. Unlike disposable with chemical and gel, cloth feels much more comfortable to skin as compare to sticky soiled disposable.

6. Aren’t our menses blood dirty?
Our blood is sterile and is not dirty inherently. Blood is easily washed out of cloth. However disposable plastic pads are actually unhealthier because they create a hotter environment (by trapping air and not allowing air flow) which promotes faster growth of bacteria which leads to itch, rashes and thrush.

Tips:
First time using, we encourage you to try it at home. Do be reminded check how many hours one piece can last for your heaviest day to prevent leakage. Also rinse it upfront prior use as dark color may bleed.

7) Mother-ease Sandy's Organic Diaper
Description : Mother-ease brand is one of my favourite choice for fitted cloth diaper. This fitted diaper is from Canada. This is the first time i m trying an organic diaper =) and of cos i loved it!
Material : It is made from soft stretchy terry cloth and they have an extra layer of absorbent terry sewn to the inside of the diaper. Sandy's diaper is very soft if compared to BBH Bamboo.

Absorbency: Great! Mother-ease claimed the absorbency can holds up to 425ml (150z) for the Large size. And i definetely agreed with it.

Drying time : Suprisingly it dry very fast although it's fitted diaper.
Fit : It fits and snuggle very well. The elastic is at the waist front and back and also the leg openings. Loved the snap closures at the sides,which has 2-3 settings allowing you to adjust the size accordingly.
Wash & Care : As usual, no bleach, no softener. Wash it liked normal cloth diaper.
Prints : Although only natural color, but i still loved it especially their cute whale logo.
Ratings : 4.5/5
Currently my younger daughter is on Sandy's Organic with ME AirFlow Snap Cover - Rainforest theme. Yeah, i have 2 themes for the covers now. One more to go..hehhehe

Description : At times, my gal can be a heavy wetter during night time especially she drinks a lot of water before her bed time. So,I decided to give a try on Hempy matched with the well known leak-free proof cover by Mother-ease to create a highly breathable, leak-free proof diapering system.The result was superb. I m just reviewing the cover since Hempy was reviewed earlier.
Material : Soft, durable and water proof fabric
Drying time : Very fast since water proof cover does not absorb water.
Fit : The cover has adjustable snaps at the waist and leg opening, which can fit to my gal very well. After all, there are sizes to choose from in order to get the best fit for your little one.
Wash & Care : Just do a normal wash and rinse.No tumble dry. I just hang it out to get the cooling breeze since it simply dry fast.
Prints : Gosh, i just love the Eco Theme Prints, intended to get all 3..ehehehe
Ratings : 5/5 (this cover really deserve for full rating because of the soft fabric,leak-free proof and highly breathable.

5)Baby Beehinds Bamboo Fitted Diaper

Description : This is another one of my favourite fitted diaper. This fitted comes with 2 boosters which are one short and one long with snaps to allow flexibility of absorbency

Material : Made from 10% polyester (for fluff retention) / 60% bamboo (for absorbency) and 30% organic cotton fleece (for absorbency and quicker drying time)
Absorbency: Excellent absorbency! I think its best use for heavy wetter and throughout for night time usage. Although, it requires a cover, but sometimes i did not use it. This is because my baby only drink one time of milk before going to bed till the next morning, thus the urine is not so much. So, the next morning the diaper is still dry. Compared to last time, one disposable every night, but the urine is so little, i think is a wastage and creating more trash to the Mother Nature
Drying time : Takes longer time to dry if the day has less sunlight. Even if the day is hot and i did not put direct under the sunlight, it may not dry up fully. If it's raining day, definetely i m out of fitted, so have to replace with Pocket Diaper.
Fit : Fitting is excellent, snugly perfectly on baby's bum
Wash & Care : The same which i just dump in all my diaper in the washing machine and let it does the work
Prints : It has a few dyed colors but so sad, i think they have discontinued the colors, therefore i only managed to get the natural color. Also, i love the cute bee, especially the bee behind the diaper..perfectly named as Baby Beehinds...winks***

Ratings : 5/5. It deserved my full ratings since this diaper has fullfilled all my needs, the best it is also one size diaper.

Type of Cloth Diapers

When i was at the bazaar, some moms were scratching on the head when i told them there are many type of cloth diapers available in the markets, it is depending on what is their type of preference. But some moms are very smart, they did some research first before coming to meet me. They came to feel and see what is the different between fitted, pocket and All in ONE because they told me it's very hard to figure out how it looks like by just doing their readings and pics posted on the Net till they actually got to see and feel it on their hand. Luckily i have those 3 types..winks***For All in Two, i do not have it to show them because it is not in my preference list =)

Ok, these are some common type of cloth diapers that you may come across while you are doing reading on cloth diapers.

Fitted Diapers
To make it simple, the whole diaper itself is made of soaker, meaning the whole diaper absorb baby's urine, that is why making it a choice for night time heavy wetter. Fitted is trim, fit and snug with a contoured shape and gathered edges around the legs, making it prefectly snuggle on baby bum. Instead of tape, it secures with either a aplix (aka velcro) or snaps. Fitted comes with a variety of materials, but some popular choices are hemp, bamboo, sherpa and velour. Bear in mind, fitted is not water proof, therefore you need a cover (water proof layer of cover), but if me and baby are at home, i may not want to add on the cover since fitted is super breathable!!

Pocket Diaper
Right, cloth diaper that has a pocket!..Pretty straight foward,ya. What do we do with the pocket diaper? Easy, you need to stuff inserts in it because the inserts will act as the soaker, meaning the inserts are the one absorbing baby's urine. Moms tend to ask how long it can last or how much urine it can hold. Depending on the type of inserts you are using. Microfiber can lasts bout 2-3 hours. (that's my experince in using on my baby). If hemp or bamboo inserts are used, definetely it can hold more and last longer. A mom popped up this question to me, if i used that brand of Pocket Diaper, i have to use back the insert which is the same brand of my pocket diaper, is it? My answer is NO! I always opt for various mixture of inserts and different brand as well, as long as i think it works out to be a good diapering system. Even, at times if i m out of inserts, i simply stuff in with lampin kain. (prefold cloth nappy). So, moms always can be creative to work out your own diapering system.

ALL IN ONE Diaper (AIO)
Not much different from pocket diaper except the insert is sewn in the diaper. It is convenient to use especially during outing time whereby you need a quick change, since it mimics the disposable diaper except you don't dispose it. AIO takes longer time to dry and harder to clean effectively since the insert is sewn in the diaper which dont allow you to remove it unliked the pocket diaper, but after all, that's why we called it AIO =)

This is how AIO looks liked and you can see the insert is sewn in. This diaper also allow you to stuff in insert in it if baby needs extra booster as you can see there is an opening liked a pocket diaper.Anyway, i m letting off this Magic ALL - AIO by BBH for the price of RM50 since it is an extra and unused when i bought a value pack. This is a brand NEW one and the size is L.

How Many Cloth Diapers Will I need?

Yes, that is the common question we will ask. I will say depending on your budget and experince with cloth diapers. For me, i did considered on budget first because many moms will think to start with cloth diapers seem to be a bit costly. Yes, i agreed with that, but in long term usage, it is definetely worth a single penny you have spent. You may consider buying a few at a time and then add on to your stash as your baby grows and you will be able to determine which type of cloth diapering system best works for your baby. Also, you may consider whether to invest one size diaper or with sizes. If you plan to have more kids in future, getting one size will save up more since it can pass down to the younger one.

Some of the guidelines you may refer to on how many diapers u will need..
Newborns
We know newborns typically go through many changes in day, what's more if baby is on breast fed. They may go through about 10-12 diaper changes every day. It is recommend to have 20-30 diapers on stash. If you opt for fitted or prefold, you may need 6-8 covers. But take note, you dont need to change the diaper cover with each diaper change, unless it gets soiled or dirt. If you prefer Pocket or ALL in One diapers, almost the same quantity needs for your stash and also supply on inserts. With this, it allow you to go for a quick changing.

Infants (3-9 months)
Infants may go through about 9-10 diapers per day. You may plan on having about 20-25diapers in the appropriate size range on hand. I always prefer to go for a mixture of fitted, pocket and ALL-IN-ONE.

Older Infants (9+ months)
While, older infants may buse about 8-9 diapers per day. 16-18 diapers, think is sufficient enough. Again, i will go for a mixture of different type of diapers.

Last week, i went for a cloth diapering workshop to get more information and learn more on cloth diapers. Just a quick share of what i can recalled back.

What is the solution to repelling diaper?
- Recommended to use a few drop of safe dishwasher and rub on the cloth diaper and wash it thoroughly in order to remove the residue especially if we mistaken put nappy cream which is not suitable to use on cloth diaper. These residue will tend to stick on it and make your diaper to repell.

How to wash and clean the diaper when baby's poo especially breastfed poo?
- Very Easy. Like how i water my plant. We use a hose/tube connected to a tab. Hold the end of the tube/hose, then shoot the water that is coming out from the tube directly to the poo which is on the diaper, then the poo will tend to bounce out. This is very effective way without leaving stains on it. Dont rub it with your hands if u think it's the best way to remove the poo, in fact you are just rubbing the poo on the diaper leaving the stubborn stain on it. Poo will actually leave some stain on your microfiber but not on the cloth diaper, so if u are very uneasy with the stain after your washing, what do you do the next time is...Pour some washing powder on the fiber and rub it on the stain, then roll up your fiber and leave it for an hour, then come back and wash it. It should clean away the stain.

Do we need to soak the diaper?
Depends on some mothers. Liked me, i used to soak the diaper in the pail with water, then come back and rinse again, and soak in again. But what i have learned from the workshop, it isnt a need, but still up to mother's preference. If you tend to soak the diaper in the water, the smell of the urine tend to spread to your whole bathroom, which i think it's pretty true because the urine has come out and mixed with the water. Even my mom was complaining it.More over i think it caused more on water wastage. So, i no longer soak in the pail with water, in fact i just dump in the dry pail and collect the whole day of the diaper laundy. After a day of collection, just dump in everything into the washing machine for full wash. Worry about the urine? According to the speaker, she has talked to a few non-biological professor, they said baby urine is non-toxic. I think is pretty true, cos we only feed baby on milk, water and till they move to solid, we know what exactly they consume.

Help!My Diaper is Leaking.

I know this problem can be particularly frustrating when you have invest out a hundred or more dollars on cloth diapers or maybe you have just started off with one CD to see and experince the outcome.Unfortunately, it comes out to be a disappointment! Leaking is a sign that something is amiss with your diaper or method. Hope some of these tips can help to you find the cause of your leaking diapers:

Poor fit-A diaper that does not fit your child well may lead you to this problem. Ensure the diaper fits snugly around the waist and legs without being too tight.

Too small- If a diaper that previously worked is suddenly leaking, check the fit. It may be getting too small!

Too big-Diapers that are too big will gap around the legs and can easily leak.

Not enough absorbency-Heavy wetter needs a lot of absorbency. Microfiber is definetely not a good choice for heavywetter especialy during naptime and overnight.You'll need extra absorbency for that.Doublers are a great way to add absorbency as they are often a little trimmer than inserts and can be used with prefolds and fitteds. If you find you want to add an insert without adding bulk, hemp inserts can be a great way to go!

Overstuffing- Overstuffing a diaper, particularly a pocket diaper, is not a good thing. Overstuffing can change the fit and shape of the diaper, causing gaps around the legs, which can promote leaks.

Wrong insert-Using an insert that is too narrow for your diaper can also cause diapers to leak. Make sure your insert fills the crotch of the pocket diaper.

Repelling-You have just put a diaper on your child, suddenly see a leak 5 minutes later. After checking the diaper, it's dry. What's wrong with that?(scratching head) Your diapers may be repelling (rather than absorbing). This can happen by using a rash cream not made for use with cloth diapers. You can use rash cream, just make sure it's safe for cloth diapers.

Detergent build up can cause leaks, as well as using the wrong detergent. Getting down a laundry routine for cloth diapers can be tricky, but it's worth a check to make sure you're using the right amount of detergent.

Every child is different though, and some CD might or might not work on them. My advice is not to give up easily especially if you really want to become one of the modern mommy who is on the go with CD..heheh..There are so many type CD, i m sure there is one that is suitable for your little one. If nothing seems to help, it may just be a diaper that doesnt work for your little one. But if u have owned it, you can consider to keep it for another baby. A diaper that does not work for you child now, it doesnt mean it will not work for another one!

Snaps or Velcro

My friends tend to ask me, snaps or velcro better? My answered to them was, depends on your preference and needs, both also have their pros and cons. Both also popular for modern cloth diapers.Again, nothing is perfect. Just a little bit of information to share on both snaps and velcro.

Snaps are great for durability and laundry. I have no worry on laundry tabs and nothing to snag in the wash, thus they are just great for tossing in my washing machine. Of course, they don't lose stickiness if snaps system is applied. A good choice for kids that are smart enough to remove the diaper easily if velcro is used. Also great for trim side-snapping diapers too.

Meanwhile, velcro is better for adjustability, since i don't have to rely solely on the snap positioning to get a good fit. It's easier to use and faster to apply if your kids cannot stay down for a second for you to put on the diaper. They mimic the function of disposable diapers very closely.

If u ask me, what is your own preference? For my stash, i have a mixture of both, dont prefer one over another because i just love trying out new diapers..Gosh!!Sooner i m turning to a CD addict.

4) Kasihku Sayangku OS Pocket Diaper
Description : This is another local brand of CD, i m using it for my younger gal during day time. It is affordable and if u ask me, i prefer this more than GH brand.

Material : PUL outer and the inner is flannel lining. Some of my customers asked me if the flannel lining may cause it to be warmed? Through my usage, i think is just find as other pocket diaper. Also like this because of the hidden pocket style and the covered insert opening allow the insert stuff in it safely.

Absorbency: Depending on the type of insert you using

Drying time : Very fast, just the same as other pocket diaper

Fit : It's much better fitting than GH, at least i dont encounter the diaper dropping off problem.
Wash & Care : The same liked other pocket diaper

Prints : Although only single color print, but i still love the bright colors available.

Ratings : 3.5/5 ( size is not that generous compared to Happy Heinys, means elder daughter cannot fit and i encountered leakage problem during night time, so only used for entire day time for younger daughter. Fully on Happy Heinys during nite time)

3) Happy Hempys Fitted Diaper

This is the pocket opening, i get to choose what to stuff in it.

Description : First fitted i tried on for my elder gal. Reason i choose this is because is a bit different from other fitted because this fitted comes with pocket means we still can stuff the insert in it just liked the pocket diaper, some kinda of 2 in 1 system, but cover still needed to prevent leakage, but if day time, i think i wouldnt be using the cover to allow for maximum breathe and air flow, but at night is a must. Is good for heavy wetter. Anyhow, sometimes i may use the pocket diaper as the cover as well.
Material : Two luscious layers of hemp fleece which makes it so soft. It is a combination of 55% hemp and 45% cotton.
Absorbency: Fabulous! Good for heavy wetter. The big benefit of it is that you decide what to stuff them with and how much stuffing your baby needs. Another beauty of it, simply loves it.
Drying time : Drying time is slower cos it's thick.
Fit : It comes with different sizes, so you can choose the size that fit your baby most.
Wash & Care : Just the same as modern cloth diapers
Prints : Is a natural diaper, so it is only available in natural color
Ratings : 4/5 (I prefer more is it's one size fitted)

Cloth Diapering Review Part I

After i have started with my cloth diapering journey and also my online store, received numerous enquiries regarding cloth diapers such as what CD system best for my baby, how good is it, why this CD does not work out for my baby and etc. (anyway, thanks for the enquiries and also numerous support). In my own opinion, there is no such thing as the perfect diaper that works for everyone under the sun. In fact, me myself still in the process of learning and trying out the best system that works for my gals, and i m glad i have found a few that perfectly work for them.

Before started with my review, just a friendly reminder, the review is solely based on my own experince and also personal opinion and i do not get paid for the post,ya. It might or might not works for your baby, anyhow i do hope it works the same for your baby and also on your decision making as in which one to choose to buy.

1) Happpy Heinys OS Pocket Diaper
Description : This is the one i very first started of CD for my gals since it's one size fitted from NB to L and thought it can lasts longer and pass down to my younger one. Money saving wise in long term also my main consideration. Also simply loves the soft inner and the awards received by this Happy Heinys..=)
Material : Soft PUL outer and custom milled fleece inner which i really like the soft fleece texture.
Absorbency: As for pocket diaper, we get to choose what kind of inserts we want to use and control the level absorbency we want.That is the main beauty of pocket diaper.
Drying time : Very fast. After i have tumbled dry it and removed from the washing machine, i can feel the dryness of the pocket diaper is amazing, therefore, just need a lil sunlight to get the natural bleach.
Fit : Eventhough the size is generous, no problem for my gals. The snug fit round the legs just nice and lovely.
Wash & Care : Very easy, especially with the soft fleece inner. Messes can easily rinse off and simply dump into the washing machine for the full level of washes.
Prints : So many prints to choose from especially my itchy hand just cant get off from the moo moo and peace bear prints. Whenever i go out, will make sure my gal wears the cute print..hehehe
Ratings : 4.5/5 (cos it may be a bit bulky for small baby due to it's generous sizing, amazingly my gal now is 13 kg, still can fit it!)

2) GH OS Pocket Diaper
Description : Started to use at the same time with HH, but more used on my younger gal since the size is not too big and fit nicely on her.
Material : PUL outer and suede cloth inner, same liked HH.
Absorbency : Depending the inserts as i mentioned earlier.
Drying time : Same, just liked normal Pocket Diaper
Fit : Not bad, just at times if i did not put it on nicely, it tends to drop off.
Wash & Care : Very easy though, especially with the suede inner. Messes can easily rinse off and simply dump into the washing machine for the full level of washes.
Prints : They only have single prints means only a few colors to choose from.
Ratings : 3/5 ( PUL not as soft and get bored with the color prints..hehehe)

As i continued my journey of research and learning more about CD, i got to read about these facts which actually caught my intention to blog and share about these.

Washing/hanging out/putting away nappies for a bub in cloth full time takes 7 minutes a day - less time than it takes to go to the store and return home with a box of disposable nappies
**Hmm..being a kiasu mom liked me, definetely i will keep searching for discounts and comparing one store with another to get the cheapest disposable diapers.Still remembered, i will not miss to flip thru the newspaper every Friday because most of the Hypermarkets will have sale during the weekend and definetely they will have sale for disposable diapers depending the brand your baby is using. Once i spotted the brand my baby used, without hesistating, i will drive all the way to the hypermarket to grab it and at the end i will entitle to get 3 packs the max, unless you bring another companion, or u pay first then put in your car, then go in again and get another 3 packs which i dont think i will do...hahahha..Since i started with CD, i stop browsing for the advertisement and the best is I can simply walk past the disposable diapers aisle without giving it a peep and second thought. Glad that this phobia is over now!

If you have plenty of cloth napkins at home and you wish to add extra absorption in it, this is one of the simple method whereby you can add a hemp or mircofiber insert in the cloth napkin. Simply refer to the method below.

1) Make the normal triangle folding, then insert one pcs of hemp underneath.

2) Then, fold in to cover the hemp insert

Eco Friendly Baby Stuff - Cloth Diapers

What sort of eco-friendly products can greenies get when it comes to their babies? Well, how about cloth diapers, baby carriers and glass bottles?Cloth diapers come in various colours and cute designs today. Gone are the days of the ordinary thin white cloth. Today, cloth diapers look just like disposable diapers and they come in a variety of colours and designs. They're kept in place with snap buttons or velcro.

What's the big deal about cloth diapers?For one, you can use cloth nappy inserts so that you don't have to keep washing 10 cloth diapers every day.Secondly, they're so much more attractive than disposable diapers because of the various colours and designs.Thirdly, they're reusable and thus environmentally friendly. Plus, there's a resale value. So, instead of throwing your money out with each disposable diaper, you can sell the cloth diapers and get some of your money back.

Li Chan, proprietor of Tiny Tapir, says it's all good and in the long run cloth diapers cost less than disposable ones.“You might think that it's expensive to cloth diaper but actually it's more expensive to use disposable diapers over the long run,” she says.But, isn't it a lot of work and a lot of washing and how about having to wash an icky cloth diaper?“Actually it is not a lot of work if you take into consideration the time you need for disposable diapers like the time that goes into buying the diapers and throwing them away and dealing with diaper rash.

“Another misconception is that with cloth diapers you have to clean up more. But actually with disposable diapers you have to clean up more because especially with newborn babies when they poo it's very explosive and it can mess up the whole crib because disposable diapers don't have elastic at the back. It's just a piece of plastic that doesn't stretch. So the poo shoots up the back because there's nothing stopping it from coming out the back. So in the end you may have poo all over your baby's crib.“With cloth diapers it's totally different; you don't get that at all because there's an elastic at the back,” says Li.

According to her, many Malaysians are not aware that they're not supposed to throw away the disposable diaper with the waste inside.“It's very toxic. It's printed very clearly on all disposable diapers that you are not supposed to throw the diaper away with the poo inside. You are supposed to take the poo diaper to your toilet and wash off the poo before throwing the diaper away.“This is because when the poo is contained inside this plastic casing and you put it in a landfill it doesn't biodegrade because there's no air. So what you get is a lot of little toxic packets of poo all over your landfill.“There are actually countries which fine you if you throw away a diaper with poo inside it. It's a very high environmental cost to pay just for convenience. Most parents don't even realise it because who reads the packaging, right?”

There is a way to wash the cloth diapers so that you don't have to deal with anything smelly and sticky. First you wash off the poo or throw it into the toilet. Then, put the cloth diaper into a dry pail with either baking soda or a deodorant disc to control the odour. Every second or third day you just put the diapers into your washing machine.“People always ask me but how can you put it in the washing machine, it's so dirty and then you wash your other clothes. There are women who have done studies on it in the United States. They took some bacteria samples from washing cloth diapers versus washing normal clothes and they found that there's no difference in the bacteria found in the washing machine,” says Li.

According to her studies have also found that cloth diaper babies potty train faster because the wet feeling makes them feel uncomfortable.

Li recommends that parents use a pre-fold diaper when diapering a newborn. The pre-fold is just like a normal piece of cloth. It's like a regular old fashioned cloth diaper but it's already all sewn together. So, you just have to pin it on for your baby. On top of that you can used one of the diaper covers.

While it might seem that all those layers makes it warmer for baby, Li says the opposite is true.

“Actually it's a misconception that if you wear a cloth diaper you feel warmer. Natural fibre allows your skin to breathe so a cloth diaper is actually more breathable than a disposable diaper.

“I know mothers whose kids used cloth diapers and when they were put in disposable diapers later, they complained that it was very warm,” she explains.

Amy Ellison, a cloth diapering educator who teaches at Be By Baby in Lakeview, said that health and comfort concerns are also an important consideration for parents looking into utilizing reusable diapers. The major fear is the chemicals that have traditionally been used in disposable-diaper manufacturing, such as dioxin, a chemical contaminant that’s created in the wood pulp-making process, Tributyl-tin (known as TBT), a toxic organotin, and sodium polyacrylate, the super-absorbent gel that Ellison said was removed from tampons due to a potential link to toxic shock syndrome.

Lisa Joy Rosing, an Evanston mother who teaches cloth diapering classes at three locations in the Chicago area, said it’s important to consider that the average baby uses 6,000 diapers from birth to potty-learning, producing about 4,000 pounds of waste that ends up in a landfill. She also said she’s concerned about the presence of human feces in landfills, which the World Health Organization and American Public Health Organization say could cause the spread of disease and bacteria. Disposable diaper packaging instructs consumers to flush solid waste down a toilet, but that instruction is usually ignored by harried parents who would rather just throw away the waste.

Cloth diapering advocates also point out that the comfort of cloth diapers – or lack of comfort when a child urinates and it isn’t immediately absorbed – may also lead to another benefit: earlier potty-learning. In fact, according to Rosing, studies show that children who use cloth diapers tend to become potty-trained six months earlier, on average. She said her own children would even bring her diapers when they became wet because they were aware of the sensation.

Simply loved the KS One size diapers, really good value for money, my mother is amazed at the way things are changing with cloth diapers. I have frxxxs brand AIO diaper, takes ages to dry. I started to let my younger girl uses KS CD when she was around 2 mths . This was the first time I tried CD bcos I just got to know CD beginning this year before I delivered. I've browse thru many local suppliers' website abt CD, but KS CD is the cheapest CD that I could find, so I gave it a try.Surprisingly the result is good! What is the meaning of good quality cloth diaper? Is good quality cloth diaper means they are expensive? You are wrong. I have bough 4 imported cloth diaper which cost RM85 - RM103 one cloth diaper. I dare not buy KS one size diaper as they are cheap and I dont think the quality is good. However, I just bought one only. To my surprise, the quality is better than the imported CD I bought. The soft lining part is dryer compared to the imported CD. Later I ordered another value pack of 3. Wanted to order more buy now I already have 7 CD. For all the CD user, do not judge the quality by the pricing. You need not waste your money buying the imported CD

I'm tried the KS 3rd Generation One Size cloth Diapers on my 3 yrs old Boy yesterday night. He is so love the diapers, previous he is using the drypants which cost around RM1 per pcs (he didn't like the normal diapers, this cause me headache).. so, now i can save RM1 per day!! At first i m a bit reluctant and doubt to try it but after i have tried it for my baby, the result is amazing and i simply cant resist it. A pocket diaper is a diaper sewn on 3 sides with an opening on one of the edges. You insert a soaker or insert layer into the opening. The pocket diaper is well liked because you get to decide how much stuffing you need in the diaper and what you want to stuff it with. The pocket diaper tends to be a trim diaper option for daytime use and has the ability to be as thick as you need for overnight.The absorbent material or better known as soaker or insert that is inserted into the pocket is what absorbs the moisture when baby relieves himself. It can be removed later for more effective cleaning. For me, i do believe that pocket diapers are the most innovative invention in diapering ever. How absorbent are pocket diapers?

They are as absorbent as you want them to be. You can add a single stuffer to the diaper and have a nice trim daytime diaper or you can add 10 layers of thick hemp and have a super absorbent nighttime diaper. Always remember that all pocket diapers are only as good as what they are stuffed with.

Can I put my pocket diaper in the dryer?

Because every pocket maker will have different directions, always check with them first. With that being said, any pocket diaper that is made with products obtained in the USA may be washed and dried on high. The high heat is actually beneficial for the outer PUL layer. You may also hang your pocket diaper to dry but we do recommend drying it in the dryer every now and then. As manufacturers of pocket diapers, we dry our diapers on high after each wash and they work just as beautifully as they did on day one.

How to wash cloth diapers

Before i started to use cloth diaper, i always worry washing of cloth diapers giving me more work to do, takes more time and effort to wash. But these are still not the most worry of me , in fact i m more worry about the stain or odour left on the cloth diaper. After i have read a lot of information from the Net on the cloth diaper washing method, now my worry has thrown away and i would like to share it with others of what i have learned from the Net.

Methods
Wet pail VS Dry pail

In wet pail method, cloth diapers are placed in a pail filled with water. Storing the diapers in water (usually accompanied by baking soda) is said to help prevent stains from setting. When wash day comes, the water is drained and then the diapers go into the wash. This method has lost much of its popularity due to odour issues that arise from stagnant water, the potential for messiness, and the potential drowning hazard present by having a pail full of water in the vicinity of children.

The dry pail method seems to be the preferred method, whereby wet and soiled diapers are placed within a covered or uncovered pail with no pre-soaking. Odour can easily be controlled by sprinkling baking soda on the diapers at the bottom of the pail.

Which Detergent to use?
Generally you will need to use less detergent than normal for washing cloth diapers as they are easily susceptible to build-up. The detergent you use for washing your other clothing will usually work just fine for cloth diapers as well. There are some detergents that work especially well for cloth diapers though and fragrance free detergents are usually best for something so close to your babies skin.

Not forgetting the amazing cleaning power of adding baking soda to your wash cycle and distilled white vinegar to your rinse cycle. Not that they highly effective but also cheap.It is best to avoid detergents with whitening enzymes .The enzymes can actually attack baby`s sensitive skin and cause horrible, blistering rashes! You should also avoid washing cloth diapers with soap products since repeated washing with soap creates a waxy build-up that reduces the absorbency of cloth diapers.

DONT DO's

Chlorine Bleach - It is great for killing germs but it is bad for cloth diapers and covers. It will actually eat away at the fibers in your diapers, leaving holes and frayed edges, decreasing their durability and absorbency. It will also adversely affect the waterproofing in certain cloth diapers. Baking soda and oxygen bleach are great whiteners to use instead.

Fabric Softener - This product is equated with super soft and fresh smelling clothing, so it is only natural that you would want to use it on your cloth diapers but this would be a mistake. Fabric softener, either in liquid or sheet form – leaves a water-repelling residue on your diapers, making them less absorbent and useful in the very purpose that they serve. It also coats your diaper covers and can deteriorate their water-proof laminate.

Pure Soaps – Natural choice in the world of cleaners, but soaps will leave a residue on your diapers and covers – similar to the soap scum you find in your tub. Soap scum on diapers makes them repel moisture rather than absorb it and it is also harsh on the laminates used in your diaper covers, making them absorb rather than repel water.

The best choice for washing your diapers is to use detergent on them.
